QUILT PREPARATION

1.    Label Top and Bottom of your quilt.

2.    Mark the center of the top, bottom, and sides of your quilt.

3.    Do not pin or baste quilt layers.

4.    Borders should be flat.

5.    Quilt top should be squared.** (See TIPS below)

6.    Clip and remove all loose threads from quilt top and quilt backside.

7.    Press well and check all seams are flat and secure.

Following the above guidelines will help you keep your quilting costs down and

allow for faster turn around time.

**If your quilt does not lay flat or is not square, I cannot

guarantee that it will be so after quilting.

TIPS: Adding Borders for a Square Quilt Top

A common mistake made when preparing a border is

measuring the outside edges of the quilt top. This usually

results in a wavy border or dog ears (where the corners are

wider than the center). This happens because your outer

edge is handled quite a bit and the edges will stretch with

handling. Preparing your borders as follows will insure a

square quilt top.

1.    Mark the center of the top, bottom and sides of the quilt body.

2.    Measurements should be taken across the center of the quilt in three places for the length (sides).

3.    Determine the length of the quilt border (sides) by averaging the three center measurements of the quilt body. This is your actual border measurement.

4.    Cut two borders that length measurement, fold in half and mark the center, and pin them to opposite sides of the quilt. Match the ends and the centers of the quilt top to the side borders, then gently ease in any fullness when sewing. Press seams toward the border.

5.    Repeat steps 1 - for the top and bottom border measurements.
